An archipelago of nearly 700 coral islands in the Caribbean, the Bahamas has long been a place for leisure and recreation, hosting a strong tourism and hospitality sector for guests from its larger North American neighbours. However, its geographic location along the Atlantic hurricane belt makes it vulnerable to seasonal hurricanes, storms and flooding.
The intensification of natural hazards and frequency of disaster occurrences has slowed recovery efforts and caused widespread internal displacement in recent years, as more durable solutions are yet to be determined.
In collaboration with local and international partners, we have provided our relief units in the Bahamas as temporary homes for the displaced population to live in safely. Learn more about our support.
