UNHCR and Better Shelter

UNHCR supports the Government of Pakistan’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic with Better Shelter units and sanitary relief items. These will be provided to health facilities in support of both refugees and host communities inBalochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

1.4 million Afghan refugees live in Pakistan and many fled decades ago. Displaced people – especially the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions – often have reduced access to health services and sanitation.

Therefore, they may be more likely to be at greater risk of contracting contagious viruses and communicable disease.
