Years of conflict in Afghanistan has caused generations of families to be displaced, often multiple times. Several families have settled in the Wakil Abad village, Faizabad city, Badakhshan province within one of UNHCR’s Priority Areas of Return and Reintegration (PARRs).

When families arrived at the Wakil Abad village and sought assistance, UNHCR and its partners intervened to offer aid, enhance access to essential services, prevent further displacement, and foster community resilience. Efforts have included the creation of a water network, a well, shelters, a community centre, assistance with road construction, and livelihood projects.

At the Wakil Abad village, UNHCR supported the installation of Relief Housing Units (RHUs) in the Wakil Abad School to accommodate young students adequately.
