A day for every child by UNICEF: Better Shelter showcases shelters in Kungsträdgården, Stockholm

Better Shelter joins UNICEF Sweden for En dag för alla barn (A Day for Every Child) at Kungsträdgården: a vibrant, free public event celebrating children’s right to play, rest, and enjoy life to the fullest.

As part of this day, Better Shelter will display one of our shelters, inviting visitors to step inside and explore how these homes offer protection, dignity, and hope for displaced families around the world.

Highlights from the day

  • A packed program of creativity and joy, including performances on the main stage, led by UNICEF ambassador Mark Levengood, featuring artists like Idol winner Margaux Flavet, Jennifer Aoun, Jojje Wadenius with Spektrumkören, and an interactive music set from Grammy-winning collective Yria, complemented by children’s theatre from Junibacken.
  • UNICEF-skriket: a powerful moment where everyone shouts together to amplify the voices of children whose rights are often overlooked
  • Endless creative activity, including stop-motion workshops, Bollywood dance lessons, “science art,” hobby-horse races, tram car rides, skateboarding, or even wheelchair basketball. Plus, chill-out zones with stories and books, and food trucks providing tasty treats.
  • Fun for every child and family, with no ticket required, just come and play from 10:00 to 16:00.

Why we’re here

Better Shelter aims to highlight the importance of safe, dignified living spaces for families forced from their homes. By placing our shelter within the heart of a joyful, child-centered event, we celebrate the resilience of children everywhere, and emphasize that a home is more than a shelter—it’s a foundation for healing, learning, and hope.

Meet our shelter

Visitors of all ages are welcome to explore the interior, ask questions, and learn firsthand how modular shelters are striking a balance between emergency response and long-term support. Our team will be on-site to share stories, explain design features, and discuss how these homes bring safety and stability to communities in need.

See you in the park! Join us on 13 September between 10:00 and 16:00 at Kungsträdgården to celebrate children’s rights, and discover how we can build a brighter future together.
