For two and a half years, Syrian jeweler Aboud Shalhoub tried to build a life in Turkey, having fled the war-torn Damascus, where his wife, Christine, and their two young children would remain until he could afford to relocate them. After years of struggle in Turkey and several unsuccessful attempts to reach Europe, he decided that his best option was to take the journey across the Mediterranean Sea, apply for asylum, and submit paperwork for family reunification.
Follow Aboud’s difficult journey in this six-part documentary by Matthew Cassel in collaboration with the The New Yorker and Field of Vision – read more about it here.
