Measuring CO₂ impact

Most of our emissions fall under Scope 3, which includes all indirect emissions across our value chain. The most significant source is the manufacturing of materials used in our shelters. This insight allows us to focus our reduction efforts where they matter most.

However, Scope 3 emissions are challenging to measure accurately, as they occur outside our direct operations. We often rely on industry averages and assumptions, meaning current data should be seen as indicative and directional rather than exact.

To improve accuracy over time, we are:

  • Obtaining more supplier-specific data, such as Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). An EPD is based on a life cycle analysis that maps out the environmental impact of the component over the entire life cycle. It provides a good basis for understanding one’s environmental impact and finding opportunities for improvement.
  • Enhancing transparency in our methodology to better facilitate comparisons between our shelters and other shelter types.
  • Developing our own Lifecycle Analysis (LCA) for our shelter units to guide material choices, production techniques, and supplier selection.
