From July to September 2018, a series of earthquakes and several aftershocks outside the Indonesian island of Lombok caused severe damage, with some 80% of buildings in the northern parts of the island were damaged or destroyed, and almost 700,000 people were displaced. Several hundreds of people were confirmed killed and more than 1,000 injured.

Responding to the emergency, IKEA Indonesia teamed up with Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) and Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) to install a learning centre for children in the Pengembuk sub-district. The company will continue to install additional centres in other locations across North Lombok.

The centre encompasses two structures, each made of two interlinking RHUs to accommodate various activities for children of different ages. The centre opened in the month of August and is now supporting recreational activities for children and young people to create new memories.
