In 2018, UNHCR reported 94 532 persons of concern (POC) in Kazakhstan, most of whom were stateless. Kazakhstan hosts a small number of refugees, the majority of them come from Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Syria. 

UNHCR ordered 48 units of the Better Shelter Relief Housing Unit (RHU) to serve in stock capacity in order to respond quickly and efficiently to urgent needs in Kazakhstan and surrounding countries.
