In July 2020, UNHCR provided 96 RHUs to Guatemala for implementation by several state agencies across the country. The donation of RHUs came along with other essential goods, including folding cots, mattresses and diapers, among other non-food items, to support the refugee and returnee populations in need of protection assistance.

When the COVID-19 pandemic grew further into 2020 and 2021, an RHU equipped with a power generator and air conditioning, supported  the Center de Salud de El Naranjo in Petén, near the border to Mexico, to provide essential health care for both host and refugee populations.
