The risk to multiple natural hazards has caused development challenges in Honduras for decades. Because of its geographic location at the Caribbean coast, Honduras is particularly vulnerable to frequent flooding, earthquakes and seasonal hurricanes.

When the twin tropical storms Eta and Iota passed through Honduras within days of each other, over 4 million people were affected. UNHCR mobilised emergency relief efforts to build temporary infrastructure, including an RHU collective centre, for community services.
