The historic city of Timbuktu in northern Mali has suffered some of the worst effects of armed conflict in the Sahel crisis, spanning from Senegal to Eritrea. Waves of escalating violence has in Central Mali have caused mass displacement clustered in the North. In 2021, UNHCR installed 115 RHUs as temporary shelters for the internally displaced populations settling in the Timbuktu communes of Goundam and Lere.
