Between January and June 2021, conflict and drought displaced over 477,000 people, most arriving in the Banadir, Baidoa, Jowhar, Beletweyne, Luuq and Xudur district. In Baidoa, south-western Somalia, the internally displaced people live in the epicentre of the country’s civil war, drought and severe hunger. Over 500,000 people live in nearly 500 IDP sites in Baidoa, with almost 90,000 households living in crowded, makeshift shelters. Responding to the urgent needs of emergency shelters, UNHCR provided 111 RHUs in Baidoa and 22 RHUs in the Madina settlement in Kismayo, to alleviate the crowded living conditions of families living in single-room shelters.
