Supporting flood victims in Brazil with UNHCR and LATAM’s Solidarity Plane

Heavy rains have resulted in widespread flooding in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. More than 85 people have died, and thousands have been forced to evacuate their homes.

Our partner, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), is sending 208 of our shelters to affected families with the support of LATAM Airlines and the Brazilian Federal Government.

Through its “Solidarity Plane” program, LATAM Airlines facilitated the transportation of 100 of the 208 shelters donated by UNHCR. The initial shipment began in Bogotá, Colombia, before reaching São Paulo, Brazil, and eventually arriving in the flood-affected regions.

Providing hope to families in Brazil

The shelters are more than a roof over one’s head; they’re a lifeline for families who have lost everything. Each unit, designed for practicality and quick assembly, comes with a lockable door, a solar-powered light, and basic living amenities, offering a safe and dignified temporary home for flood victims.
