Better Shelter Relief Housing Units (RHUs) were implemented in the transit camps of Karatepe and Moria in Greece, as part of UNHCR’s efforts to address the influx of refugees and migrants in 2014-2016. By October 2015, some 200 shelters had already been implemented, out of the total 1520 shelters.

The RHUs were used mostly as temporary housing for displaced families, administration centres where refugee registration under UNHCR took place and primary health care clinics, run by Médecins du Monde (MdM).

“We’d like to see that refugees are given access to permanent homes as soon as possible after arriving in Europe. But as the current situation leads to many having to stay in transit camps during several halts of their distressful journey, we are pleased to be able to provide families with a moment of calm and safety inside a Better Shelter” – Johan Karlsson, Head of Business Development at Better Shelter.
