Providing shelters for earthquake-affected people in Hatay, Türkiye
In February 2023, a devastating earthquake hit Türkiye and north-western Syria causing severe damage. More than 1.5 million people lost their homes. While the recovery and reconstruction process are still ongoing, many people remain without a permanent place to live, and at least 500,000 new homes are required.
Through collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Disaster and Emergency Directorate (AFAD) – and with the support of the IKEA Foundation and other donors – 500 Relief Housing Units (RHUs) were implemented in various locations to support the affected communities. These shelters provided safety, dignity, and protection from severe weather conditions, ensuring the well-being of the people residing in them.
