Croatia
The situation
Natural disaster
After years of devastating loss from ethnic-driven conflict in the 1990’s, Croatia emerged as a stable democracy, and member of the European Union since 2013.
Croatia’s position in the Balkans makes it vulnerable to numerous natural hazards, including seasonal torrential rainfall and flooding that continue to have a profound effect on its key economic sectors. In recent years, temperatures are recorded to be increasing, along with related extreme weather events such as droughts, forest fires and earthquakes.
