In March 2020, UNHCR donated 272 RHUs to the Government of Mali, Ministry of Disaster Management Affairs and Public Events as temporary shelters for people displaced by the growing effects of natural disasters. Just before March, as much as 2,500 households were displaced in the Karonga district because of heavy rainfall and flooding. Due to a rapidly changing climate, Mali has been vulnerable to multiple natural hazards, including droughts and floods. These hazards are core drivers of food insecurity, which continue to pose a significant threat to the country’s development, and the general population’s health.

UNHCR donated an additional 36 RHUs to the Ministry of Health to support patient care in the face of the growing COVID-19 pandemic, and continued cholera outbreaks.
