The 2019 earthquake devastated parts of northwestern Albania. The strongest earthquake to affect Albania in recent decades led to massive loss of life and destruction of family homes and critical infrastructure.

In response to this crisis, 52 Relief Housing Units (RHUs) were donated to the Albanian Red Cross in support of their efforts to provide temporary shelter to families affected by the earthquake. The project aimed to support some 20,000 people in Albania, including 9,894 men and 10,106 women.

By April 2021, the Albanian Red Cross reported that 7 RHUs had been built, however the assembly and distribution of the shelters were delayed by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The project remains ongoing and subsequent RHUs will be assembled and distributed in due course.
