In February, the powerful earthquakes that hit Türkiye and Syria caused over 100,000 casualties. At least 8.8 million people were affected by the earthquake in Syria, most of which are anticipated to require some humanitarian assistance. An estimated 15.3 million people already needed humanitarian assistance in Syria before the earthquake.

UNHCR responded to the earthquake by deploying 1273 RHUs in northwest Syria, home to 2.8 million internally displaced people, where many became displaced yet again.
